THE HOLIDAY: Yellow Pig Day originated in the 1960s when two math students from Princeton spent time obsessively analyzing the number 17. They went a little crazy and decided to invent the concept of a yellow pig with 17 toes and 17 teeth. Now Yellow Pig Day (July 17th) is an important part of the academic calendar and is celebrated with cake, carols, and general revelry.
THE ART: Yellow Pig Day is a daily collaborative art project celebrating the United States' wide array of bizarre national holidays. Each day is randomly assigned to an artist who creates whatever they want based off of that theme. It could be a painting, drawing, photo, sculpture, animation, movie, photoshopped collage, sketchbook drawing—anything at all! Whatever the end result may be, it will be posted to this site for all to enjoy. So, enjoy!
Thank you to all of the artists who have participated in Yellow Pig Day so far! Looking forward to celebrating more ridiculous holidays together.
